In praise of Mature Cats.....

At Woking Cats Protection, we are passionate about all cats, whatever their age, colour or social habits. However, after patiently waited in the wings throughout a very busy kitten season, we think it’s time to give our 8–12 year olds the special attention they deserve.

The young adults of the cat community, 8–12 year olds have perhaps the best qualities of all, yet they are often overlooked at the pens in favour of their younger and older counterparts. Here are the top five reasons why we think young adults deserve an equal chance.

The Purr-fect Family Pet - Many cats that come to Woking Cats Protection have already experienced life with children so we know the ones that are likely to fit in well with a family. You cannot always tell how a younger cat will react in a family situation but with mature cats, one  knows whether they like children, other cats, dogs.... or wuld just like to dote on one person.

A Suitable Companion - Cats in the 8–12 age range tend to be the least demanding and have learnt to appreciate a good home. They enjoy spending time socialising and are less likely to run off scared or hide under the sofa – they want to be on it with you.

A Happy-at-Home Worker’s Cat - These cats are at an age where they can stand on their own four paws and look after themselves. They are happy to be left to a-mews themselves during the day if you are not around.

• Full of Purr-sonality - In cat terms, our 8–12 year olds have been through their awkward toddler and teenage years and are wiser in the ways of the world. At this age their personality is fully developed and clear to see, so when you come to the pens you can be matched with a cat that suits you.

• Over 10 Years of Love- Cats can live for up to 20 years, so on average these cats have 10 years of love to give – and they give it in spades. They do not ask for a lot, yet they give so much in return.

We hope you agree that our young adults really do deserve to be given an equal chance for your love. As with all Cats Protection cats, our 8–12 year olds are fully vet checked from the tips of their ears to the tips of their tails. They are neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, and have had any other treatment that may have been necessary from dental work to flea banishing. Your Cats Protection cat will always be in the best health possible.

Why not take a look to see which young adults are waiting in the pens right now? Simply click Home A Cat in our menu and follow the links. We know our cats will appreciate you having a look.

We also urgently require good quality bric a brac (china / glass / unwanted gifts etc) for our fundraising events.   If you can donate anything at all for this worthy cause, please call Wendy on 01483 831910 - the rescue cats would be extremely grateful!

A BIG THANK YOU from the Rescue Cats

Two very loyal supporters, Karin and Paul, ran the Windsor Half Marathon in September in aid of the Woking & District Branch.   Now that all the donations are in and we have also received the GIFTAID, we are delighted to announce a grand total of £886.00 was raised!   A big thank you for Karin and Paul for enduring such physical hardship (the aching knees!) and also to all those who gave so generously at this time.

KittyCan you give Kitty a home?

I am Kitty and I was born in 1997. I am extremely friendly and in my owner's words "surprisingly well behaved!" I do not jump up on sofas or kitchen counters and when you stroke me, I like to roll over and get you to stroke the underside of my neck...
